About Us - எங்களை பற்றி

The Association of British Tamil Lawyers (“ABTL”) is a non-profit membership association and the first organisation of its kind, sitting at the heart of both the Tamil and legal communities in the UK.

Established by junior lawyers from the British Tamil community, its objectives are to promote entry into the legal profession for aspiring lawyers, promote more diversity and inclusion in the legal sector, provide networking and training opportunities and help connect practicing lawyers from the Tamil community in the UK and beyond.

Our Objectives

  • Promoting entry into the legal profession for aspiring lawyers from the Tamil community.
  • Promoting diversity and inclusion in the legal sector with a special focus on increasing exposure of the Tamil legal community in the UK.
  • Providing networking and training opportunities to help connect practicing lawyers from the Tamil community in the UK and beyond.

Our Structure

ABTL is formed as a non-profit for the benefit of its members and the Tamil community in the UK at large.

It has a three-tier governance structure with an Advisory Committee, an Operational Committee and an Executive Committee.

Advisory Committee

The Advisory Committee, comprised of leading senior lawyers, provides strategic guidance, advice and access for the benefit of the Association.

Operational Committee

The Operational Committee, comprised of junior lawyers, is tasked with the day to day running of the Association and is divided into three departments: the Student Services Department, the Professionals’ Services Department and the Administrative and Marketing Department.

Executive Committee

The Executive Committee formally approves relevant decisions including the allocation of resources by the Operational Committee.

Members of the Executive Committee are nominated and elected by the Operational Committee.
